(1) Life Membership may be awarded to persons who have rendered special services to the Association. The Committee may nominate a candidate for Life Membership. The award of Life Membership requires a resolution at a General Meeting.

(2) Life Membership can co-exist with other forms of voting and non-voting membership. For clarity, the award of Life Membership —

(a) Does not create voting rights, nor extinguish voting rights if the recipient is currently a member

(b) Does not create the right to apply for Associate or Debenture memberships for family members, nor extinguish such rights if the recipient is currently a member

(c) Does not create the obligation to contribute to extraordinary financial calls, nor extinguish such obligations if the recipient is currently a member.

(3) Life Members have the same rights to use Association facilities as other members, at the same rates as other members.

(4) Life members are exempt from payment of all annual subscriptions and levies.

Notes

Life Membership:

·         Is intended as an honorary award

·         Is not transferable to another person

·         Does not confer voting rights

·         Does not confer the right to sign up others as associate members or debenture members.

·         Does allow the life member the same use of Association facilities as other members, but they are exempt from payment of all annual subscriptions and levies

·         Can co-exist with a full membership (i.e., a person can be a full member and a life member simultaneously) — By making someone a life member, we don’t want to confer voting rights, nor do we want to cancel any voting rights they may have.

— Similarly, it doesn’t cancel their full member rights to have a family member join as an associate member; and it doesn’t cancel their obligation to meet extraordinary calls.

Life membership can only be awarded by the club at a General Meeting.

Nominations for the award of Life Membership

To give clarity to all members on how Life Membership nominations would work in practice, the Committee have developed the following process which would be published on the club’s website.

“The Burrumbeep Ski Club Inc. Rules of Association provides that the Club may award Life Membership at a General Meeting for a member of the Club that has been nominated for Life Membership by the Committee of the Burrumbeep Ski Club.

Members may propose Life Members to the Committee at least one month prior to a General Meeting.

The proposal must be in writing and must be proposed and seconded by Members of at least two years standing or may be proposed by the Committee.

The Committee shall consider proposals for Life Membership and in its sole discretion decide which (if any) are formally nominated for Life Membership at a General Meeting”

Criteria for Life Membership (set by the committee)

To give clarity to all members on the criteria for Life Membership, the Committee have developed the following criteria.

Any changes to these Criteria will be communicated to the members at a General Meeting.

“The nominee should have demonstrated an exceptional contribution, for an extended period of time, which exemplifies a spirit of service and has been of significant benefit to the club and its membership. Specifically:

1. A minimum of 10 years in Committee roles where they have made an exceptional contribution; and/or

2. A minimum of 10 years of recognisable and substantial service that reflects exceptional dedication to the values and interests of the Burrumbeep Ski Club Inc.
